The Essentials You Must Have to Move in to Your Apartment Rental

Moving into your apartment rental can be a time of both high excitement and additional stress!  Between coordinating movers, packing up all of your belongings, and finding the time to get it all done, it’s easy to get lost in overwhelm.  If you find yourself scrambling to get it all finished in a timely fashion, fret not.  It’s possible to move into your new place with just the essentials that will carry you through until you find some extra time and/or money to purchase all that your heart desires.

Essentials for Your Bedroom

After a long day of moving into your new apartment rental and unpacking a bunch of boxes, the first thing you are going to want to do is get a good night’s rest.  That’s why it’s imperative that your box spring and mattress be among the first items that you purchase for your new space.  You obviously won’t want to sleep on a bare mattress either, so make sure that you take the time to purchase soft, high thread-count sheets, plenty of cozy pillows, and an appropriate comforter.  Other must-haves for your bedroom include a clothes hamper and LOTS of hangers!

Essentials for Your Bathroom

A hot shower or bath might also appeal to you after a hard day of moving.  If your apartment rental isn’t already equipped with one, you will want to ensure that you move in with a shower curtain on hand.  In fact, even if it does already have one, it’s probably a good idea to get your own!  Make sure you bring some plush towels, a bath mat to protect the floor, and enough toilet paper to get you through until your next visit to the grocery store.

Essentials for Your Kitchen

Essentials for your apartment rentalIf you love to cook then you will want to make sure that you have the kitchen of your apartment rental stocked and ready with the appropriate items.  That doesn’t mean that you have to get everything at once, but at least make sure you have the bare essentials.  Some basic pots and pans, utensils, plates, bowls, cups, a strainer and some simple tools like spatulas and wooden spoons should be enough to get you by for a little while.  You might also want to consider a toaster, a tea kettle, some tin foil, and a few Tupperware containers.

Essentials for Your Living Room

If you haven’t found the time to purchase a full living room set for your apartment rental just yet, don’t worry.  Grab a few plastic or folding chairs that can offer a place to sit until you decide what you want.  You can create a makeshift coffee table with milk crates.  You may not, however, want to hold off on installing your television or stereo set.

Decor

While you may not be ready to fully commit to decorating your apartment rental, it’s always nice to come to a space that feels like it’s yours.  First off, think about paint color.  If you intend on painting your space (with your landlord’s blessing of course), it’s going to be far easier to do it before you’ve filled the place up with your belongings.  Gather some friends and host a painting day before you move in.  Additionally, hanging even just a few pictures or paintings on the wall will help the space feel like home and make it feel more inviting.  Make sure you have plenty of additional lighting handy as well to brighten it up.  Bringing in some green plants is another quick and easy way to liven up the space.

Essentials for Your Laundry Room

Chances are good that, even though you’ve just moved in, you will still have to do your laundry so you have clean clothes to wear to work.  That is why remembering items like detergent, fabric softener, and dryer sheets are super important.  You will also likely want to stock your space from the start with cleaning supplies.  Even if your space was professionally cleaned before move-in, you will probably want to give it a quick once-over.

Miscellaneous Items

There’s nothing more frustrating than forgetting those last minute items that you keep finding the need for!  Don’t move into your apartment rental without a hammer, hardware to hang pictures, a step stool, batteries, extension cords, or a first aid kit in case of emergencies.
