6 Solid Reasons to Stay Put in Your Apartment Rental

With the end of the year rapidly approaching, many Americans are also nearing the end of the lease terms on their apartment rental.  If December has you in a mad dash to try to figure out what’s next, don’t panic!  While moving can certainly be a fun and exciting process, there’s also some really great reasons to stay put and renew your lease if the option is available.

1.   Location

Okay, so maybe your apartment rental isn’t perfect.  Sure, it could perhaps be a little bit bigger with more closet space and a larger kitchen, but think about your location.  If you are in close proximity to your work, your friends, your family, and the places that you spend the most time (your favorite restaurants, the library, or that amazing park you love to jog in) you will definitely want to take this into consideration.  Finding the perfect location is not an easy thing to do, and it often comes with a hefty price tag.  If you’re fully satisfied with where you are on the map, don’t be in such a rush to hightail it out of there.  It could be a decision that leaves you with loads of regret.

2.   Cool Neighbors

3.   A Great Landlord

In a similar vein to great neighbors comes a great landlord.  Having a landlord that you don’t get along with is the worst!  Literally nobody wants to live in an apartment rental where repairs aren’t made, promises aren’t kept, or they feel like every move they make is being watched.  If you’ve managed to build a good rapport with your landlord, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

4.   Amenities

If your apartment rental boasts a host of really awesome amenities, this should be another thing you think about before committing to relocation.  Not all apartment communities are created equally, and it’s quite likely that the amenities offered by your current community were among the top reasons you chose to live there in the first place.  Whether the selling point was high-end finishes like hardwood flooring and granite countertops or a plethora of cool, on-site activities like tennis courts, swimming pools, and/or hiking trails, it’s important to remember that these things may not be available in neighboring communities.

5.   Cost-Effectiveness

Probably the most obvious benefit of staying put in your current apartment rental is that you know what to expect when it comes to finances.  Not only do you know what your monthly rent will be, but you also know what it costs to heat and cool your space, what your average monthly electric bill is, and what, if any, extra expenses are covered in the cost of your rent.  If your current landlord is paying for cable, Wi-Fi, water, trash or any combination of these, that’s a lot of money that you could be paying for in another space.  Also, it costs a LOT of money to move.  It’s not just packing paraphernalia and hiring movers either.  Consider any time you may lose from work as well.

6.   Size of the Space

Lastly, finding the right apartment rental is akin to Goldilocks conundrum when she found the three bear’s house.  Some are too small and others are far too big to suit your needs.  If you’ve found a space that feels just right, why relocate?  If your furniture fits, there’s room for an occasional impromptu soiree, and you aren’t paying for a storage unit every month, the chances are good that you and your apartment are a very good fit.
